Played this game at 5am, dark outside, lights out, silence.
Freaky game when you're suffering from insomnia ;)
Maybe it was the lack of sleep, maybe it was not.
oh no, oh no, something is coming, I just know it!!

evenso I still sat totally tensed behind my computer haha
Anyways, game is only open between 6pm and 6am.
Change the clock on your computer to play it during the day :) but it won't be as much fun!
Don't say I didn't warn y'all!

Hotel California: LA from the Byrds to the Eagles

Documentary looking at the music and mythology of a golden era in Californian culture, and telling the story of how Los Angeles changed from a kooky backwater in the early 1960s to become the artistic and industrial hub of the American music industry by the end of the 1970s.
Alongside extensive and never before seen archive footage, the programme features comprehensive first-hand accounts of the key figures including musicians (David Crosby, Graham Nash, J. D. Souther, Bernie Leadon and Bonnie Raitt, music industry bosses (David Geffen, Jac Holzman, Ron Stone and Peter Asher) and legendary LA scenesters including Henry Diltz, Pamela Des Barres and Ned Doheny.
The film explores how the socially-conscious folk rock of young hippies with acoustic guitars was transformed into the coked-out stadium excess of the late '70s and the biggest selling album of all time.

I suggest you tune in to BBC2 tonight at 22.15 GMT+0 (23.15 in the Netherlands) to watch this documentary about some of the greatest musicians in (Folk) Rock.

The Story of the Guitar

Some of my readers know that I have been playing this wonderful instrument since I was a little girl. I started with classical guitar but the electric guitar was always lurking in the background (my parents weren't that enthousiastic about that in the beginning, afraid that I would blow up the house with the amplifier I guess :D I think they made the right decision to let me wait a few years before I got an electric guitar ;) ) , so eventually (after many many years of classical lessons) I switched to the amplified kind.

So yesterday I was watching a really good documentary about one of the most popular instruments: the guitar. This BBC documentary really intrigued me, as most of BBC's documentaries do. This particular one educates about the history of the guitar from the very first beginning, a Greek legend, till now.
Elvis Presley, John Williams, BB King, David Gilmour and so on talk about their passion for the guitar.

I really recommend you to watch this series! The next episode will be airing on 12 October, 23.20 pm (Amsterdam) at BBC1.

London Fashion Week

So today is the last day of London Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Yeah, that's no mistake, for the ones that do not know, the fashion world is always a step ahead. Is it Winter? Oh let's present our collection with short skirts, flirty dresses and sunglasses!

I wanted to give you an overview of my favorite shows but I came to the conclusion that I liked too many ;)
So I guess I'll leave it to you then to check it out yourselves:

P.s. It's so cute how the designer of Modernist is totally shy when he is given his applause at the end of his show.

Musthave Monday: re:vision cuffs

Can not live without your camera, your companion in taking those nice shots of your everyday life? I wish I could take my camera everywhere with me, now we can!
Re:vision's designer Craig Arnold came up with the idea to take a camera, strip it from its parts and make bracelets out of it! With different models ranging from
Depth of field to Focus, I am sure that there will be cameraparts err.. cuffs that suit your style (or camera). The only problem you could hit upon are probably the prices, you could almost buy a camera yourself and strip it from its parts, but that would be a shame wouldnt it?

Let's play a game of 'guess the camera(parts)'!

Large Hadron Collider, anyone?

So today I went running - Yes, even when it is cold and it rains, do not ask.. -, I did some reading in my philosophy book - Why does my teacher write in such a 'floaty' way? Is it because he is from Belgium or because it ís after all philosophy? Maybe it is a combination of both - , then I watched Strictly come dancing on the BBC - No, I am not ashamed of it, that program is so funny (how I love Bruce, dirty old bastard!), oh and dancing is a passion of me :) Have not found a guy that can dance yet though. (for applications, email me!!) -, I picked up an old sketchbook of mine, found a portrait I drew from a long long time ago (three-four years), I realized that I had skills then, I should pick it up again. Anyways, I drew some flowers, but after a while I was done with that too.

Are you bored yet? This post will not be a 'what-I-did-today-because-you-find-it-so-interesting-post', I will reach the clue of this post! I promise.

AnyanyANYWAYS, I am watching Night of the Proms right now on BBC, and there is a opera singer with a weird suit on, on the stage.. so I thought by myself, this is nice and all.. but what about my blog?? Weren't I planning on writing something about the BIG BLACK HOLE everybody is so scared about? (well not everybody, but you catch my drift)
I haven't got the time last week to write about it so let's teach you guys something about the Large Hadron Collider! (if you are not interested in science, there is a button somewhere in your window and clicking on it will close this blog! You did not know that, did you? What would you do without me, really ;) )

Let me tell you beforehand, I am no scientist, so do not expect an extended explanation of how this thing works. You could check the BBC site though.

First, let's bring some salvation to the people that still think that we all will die because of this enscened big bang. WE WILL NOT DIE! We did not die last Wednesday when the Large Hadron Collider was given the start sign, and we will not die in the future, well yeah, we will, but not because of this collider. There have been high energy particles present in the cosmos for as long as we know, we should have died already if they were dangerous.

So, now that is cleared I can explain you something about the Large Hadron Collider.

The Large Hadron Collider was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and it lies deep down under the ground near Geneva, Switzerland.
It is designed to recreate the conditions of the earth after the big bang. In this LHC beams of protons will collide at the speed of light (so that is really really, ya really, fast). The results of these collisions could answer some of the biggest riddles in this world.

Some of the questions (source: wikipedia) physicists hope to get answered by this collision are:
In about 6-8 weeks the high collisions will take place, so stay tuned.

For now, if you want to know more about this scientific project but want it to be understandable, check this rap:

Oh btw, the system of the Large Hadron Collider has been hacked by a team that call themselves the Greek Security Team. They were just a step away of controlling one of the magnetic detectors. Ironic enough is that Tim Berners-Lee (the man who invented the internet) worked at CERN and that they had the first website built. You would think they would have some knowledge about security.
Hm.. maybe we should worry about a big black hole that will end the existence of this world..

Anya Singleton

It's like there is a factory somewhere, somehow, that produces singer/songwriters by the dozen every hour. I do not mind the hype about new singer/songwriters, especially not if it is about someone like Anya Singleton. I am honored to be part of her growing fame or name with this blogpost.

With her pure sound she conquered my heart.
A voice powerful, yet singing with a carefull touch, like she touches something for the first time, amazed by it's beauty. Her debut cd The Other Side (coming out in August) consists of some powerful songs (you go girl) and some pretty, dreamy songs. Farewell reminds me somewhat of a Dutch singer/songwriter (What's her name?). Nevermore has some Amy Winehouse touches.
Rock, blues, soul, it's all in there.
There is room for improvement as you can hear in some songs, it needs more power. Fact is, that she is still at the beginning of her
career, so I am sure that her voice will develop over time and that we, her audience, will be blown away.

For the boys! New Dimension Clothing

Something for the boys!

I was visiting Haarlem the other day and came across a sticker with newdimension-clothing.com written on it. Curious as I am, I checked the website.

The fall/winter collection embodies a graphic new-rave electro feeling. It exists of t-shirts, sweats, boxers and jeans. The sweats remind me of one of my favourite brands at the moment: OnTour (check this one out, also women clothing!!).

At the moment New Dimension can be bought at: Code Gallery Store (Amsterdam), Halte 119 (Leiden), Mint (Nijmegen), Square (Utrecht) and Curbs (Tilburg).
Hopefully there will be a women collection in the (near) future.

Musthave Monday: Boosted The Grande Headphones in Sashimi

Want great sound but looking 'fashionable' too?

We all know the Skullcandy headphones that are taking over your local shops, streets, the world... if fake fur is not your thing but you still want to make a fashion statement, try the headphones of Boosted. You probably have heard about BoostedMobile, they now came up with a series of headphones. My personal favourite is
The Grande Headphones in Sashimi. Pastel colours but also available in 'flashy electro'.
The headphones are compatible with cell phones that play mp3's (iPhone!) and normal mp3-players. They include in-line microphones and buttons to answer your calls. Boosted promises to give you "a wide dynamic range providing exceptional low rumbling bass, low distortion highs and cosistent mids".

Don't be surprised when people look at you!

Bebel Gilberto

Bebel Gilberto, not only beautiful but also capable of making some really good music.

With a Brazilian background, a father who is called the father of Bossa Nova, a mother who was a singer and her uncle Chico Buarque (singer/songwriter) she evidently grew up with music. At the early age of seven she already gained some musical experience by singing on her mothers first solo album. By age nine she performed with her mother and famous jazz saxophonist Stan Getz.

The music of Bebel Gilberto always makes me happy and gives me that 'lying-on-a-deserted-beach-enjoying-the-silence-and-nature' feeling. She also reminds me somewhat of Sade, who you all know obviously (if not: go listen! now!). It's the perfect music for the summer, not that you can't listen to it when it's winter, but you know what I mean.
If you like Bossa Nova I suggest you give Bebel a listen, I embedded a clip of Memento to make it even easier!

So nice is also worth a listen.

The uglyness of electric wires

Frustrated with those electric wires across your room?? I know I do!

Pretty nice idea, thought of something likewise myself. Only problem is that my wires are hiding in places you still wouldn't see the prettyness, even if I patched things up. Oh well..

Do your wires need a make-over? Maybe this will give you some ideas

Doosje

heel voorzichtig even kijken,
en dan telkens even kijken
en een zoen.

Je mag er eventjes uit, elke dag.
Zeker dat mag. Ja, een uurtje, dat mag.
Laten we zeggen: naar 't Vondelpark, even,

Incognito

Yes, mijn haar is weer okay, olee.

Musthave Monday: Saishin Diode Watch

1000100101 Black, Retsu IPB,.... yeah. nevermind..

P.S. I love you

As I write this letter,
send my love to you,
remember that I'll always,
be in love with you

- The Beatles

P.S. Ik ken een hoop attente mannen, maar ik zie ze nog niet zo'n privé-dansje opvoeren, as much as I would like it! hint hint

Maargoed, ik begin af te dwalen. Holly dus. Succes gegarandeerd!

The girlfriend experience

The girlfriend experience
